Welcome to the GSM Finance Association

The Finance Association is dedicated to extending the GSM finance curriculum beyond the classroom. By partnering with faculty, student organizations, outside experts and institiutions we are fortunate to have regular roundtables on current finance topics. We also provide networking opportunities with current students and graduates by holding regular socials and running a stock simulation competition.

Announcements and Events

Elections!

If you would like to join the Finance Association as an Officer, then please email Gerrit Buddingh (gjbuddingh@ucdavis.edu) the position you would like to run for and a brief statement of your goals/why you are running. This must be submitted by Tuesday November 17 at midnight. Your statement will be sent out verbatim to all of the Finance Association members who will then vote for the candidate of their choice. The Finance Association recommends a pitch that is about a 2-4 sentence paragraph.

On Wednesday at 9pm, all Finance Association members will be sent a link to a survey and the polls will officially be open for 24 hours, closing down at 9pm Thursday. Final results will be sent out via email on Friday.

Here are the positions available:
-President
-VP of Finance
-VP of Communications & Events
-VP of Development
-Director of Financial Literacy Program
-VP of Development (possible new position)

We look forward to seeing your statements!

Internship Panel

The Finance Association's first event of the year will be an internship panel held on Thursday, November 5. We'll kick things off at 12:30pm in the Gallagher 1213, the large classroom where the core classes are held. This will be an excellent opportunity for first years interested in finance to hear from second years about what they did this past summer. Even if you aren't sure you want a finance internship, this is a great way to hear how some of the second year students found their summer work in spite of a tough job market. Lunch will be provided for free to members (you can pay your dues at the event, if you wish!) and for $5 to non-members. RSVP to john.gish@gmail.com by Monday, November 2.

Membership

First years, if you are interested in joining the Finance Association, remember to turn in your $20 membership fee to Kristen DeWitt. There is an envelope in Kristen's mailbox in the student lounge where you can leave your payment. You can pay with cash (make sure to indicate it is yours) or write a check payable to Kristen, or let us know your intent of joining and we can accept an IOU in the interim. Remember, you must be a member if you are going to run for an officer position and to take advantage of other members-only events/opportunities. As for when we will elect new officers, ASM is revising the election process and we should have a better idea about when elections will occur by the end of next week.

Berkeley Finance Conference

The Haas School of Business's Finance Association is hosting a conference on Friday, November 13. Registration is $25 and the conference lasts for the entire day. This is an excellent networking opportunity for students pursuing a career or internship in finance. See http://www.berkeleyfinanceconference.org/ for an agenda and further information. Finance Association members will be reimbursed for half of the registration fee.

Microfinance Lecture Series

UC Berkeley is simulcasting a 7 week speaker series on microfinance to business schools all over the country beginning at the end of this month. The lectures will be held on Mondays from 4-6pm and can be viewed in the Dorf classroom, beginning on Monday October 26 and ending on Monday, Dec 7.
